Sham/Scam or not

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My PC came up w/ an orange screen, said that my PC alerted Microsoft that it was infected. It had an 888 toll free number to call. When I called said number I was informed it would cost $400+ to clean my PC.Let me say I had no control over my PC when the screen was orange in color.I immediately told them I cannot afford $400+ dollars to repair my device,so I found a company called GuruAid which they'd charge me $299 dollars for two years of service.I only had less than $50 dollars in my checking account. My bank paid them $299 dollars even though my account had less than $50 bucks. The company asked for my account number and called my bank and they authorized payment of their fee.I was told I could pay the $299 dollars the next day.I'm not the only one this kind of thing is happening to.This in my opinion is criminal.Being a capitalist society they allow businesses to actually rob individuals in this manner.Nothing mind you was wrong w/ my PC,but these companies make you think there is something wrong w/ your PC.You can complain to the Attorney General in NYC,the Better Business Bureau and nothing is done about this unlawful criminal process.

What I shared!

Original review Apr 03, 2018
Last night all of the sudden out of nowhere my computer screen goes red with white fonts embezzled all over warning me of security alert. I got a number off google for Norton Tech support.

I called the number thinking I was dealing with Norton, They pretended to be Norton, and after $120 dollars I found differently. of course for them to work on my virus problem I had to give them the control of my computer. Afterwards, I felt like I gave the key to my house to a thief and hopped they would not rob me.

I believe these Indians are the biggest generators of hacks in the world. For some 1 1/2 hour that I was occupied with them they were trying to sell me a 3 year 399.00 dollars computer protection plan.

VERY agressive .Parisites, using browsers to misslead you .

A bad experience i would rather forget, made me fearfull. after 6 hr i was ill . I had gone on line to find my PC help line to to sort a fault out, Got Guruaid and they inferred they were the agents for the company. Took very long time to sort things out and all the time the were trying to sell you more services, Now Discovered they have nothing to do with the company when i eventually contacted them to actually fix my PC.They have this tactic if one operator has no joy i getting to part wth more money then tey will switch to another. This will go on forever as they slow down the corrective action they are performing on your equipment.

Norton fixed my problem for free when my vault wouldn't open. They said it could not be fixed without a tech doing it. Tried to blame it on another program that had nothing to do with it. Once they started dropping the prices quoted I knew something was up. they merged 2 accounts incorrectly (without my permission) almost cost me to have to buy more backup space. Again Norton fixed the issue at no cost. In fact Norton saved me about an additional $100.00. Don't trust these people. I am going to be reporting them to the BBB as soon as I am done with this post.

GURUAID: Continual harassment call after call.

I have saved on my phone all of the calls these people have made to me. They call me 3-5x's a day. They are somehow able to flash warning screens on your computer, suddenly a voice comes on saying you must call them cuz someone has hacked into your computer. Initially i called them and spent almost 15mns. on the phone/w them; some indian-sounding man told me that he would prevent any hackers from infiltrating. He asked me to go inside my "RUN" on my computer and then he fed me info. re: what he wanted me to type in. Suddenly it dawned on me that we had spent a long time on the phone. I told him i had to hang up, he begged me not to. When he heard i was determined to hang-up, (still not fully aware of who i was talking to), he stated i owed him $250.00 for his services. I then told him to :go to ***" and hung-up. Since then they call daily. Here are the #'s they use: 844-325-****, 855-979-****, 855-979-**** &, 866-284-****. BE AWARE. Tell these people you are recording their call(s) & you are forwarded their call to your local police force,

It took hours to reinstall McAfee

I lost McAfee - it just disappeared while running a scan. I called my ISP Tech Support ((iiNet) and was connected (as usual) to one of their help centres in India.

The techs were polite, helpful etc and set about reinstalling McAfee after assessing problem - said it related to large amount of suspect files, malware, adware etc and said they would clean this up and I agree. I was then advised there would be a $153 charge for service which I accepted. Silly me. The first tech failed to reinstall software which had taken up to 90mins.

Another tech came on and finished this and checked it out. AOK.

Another 90 mins time taken up. What I want to know is does iiNet know about this as they are org who connected me in first place which gave me some confidence that guruaid were a kosher org.

Re #GA15080**** Very dissatisfied with service. Every time I seek help the tech many changes to software nothing works satisfactorily again. Last time was the final straw! Never use them again!

I was having connection problems with modem failures and email connection. Upon contacting Guruaid I was told they would change my emails to Thubderbird. I did not want to do this but was told Windows 10 does no longer support Windows Live Mail. I asked him to install Incredimail, but he went ahead with Thunderbird. He also told me that I would be changed from Norton Security to Microsoft defender, which I argued I did not want not do. Tech went ahead anyway. Then he asked if I had an iPhone. I told him I only had a smart phone. He then said it should be serviced at a contract fee of $A50.00 I reluctantly agreed, but now with all the problems I have had I will not be letting your techs anywhere near my phone which is working perfectly well. Now please refund the $50.00 you charged me for a service I did not want and do not want.

Guruaid Remote Control

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
First calling through a phone number given to me by a tech in Xbox support I was ready for as good as service as before. I was first skeptical when they answered and I told them I got off support and they said they were not Xbox or Microsoft. Immediately I questioned on if they were the right people to call but they assured me it was fine. They were very helpful at first and did end up fixing my issue. However, they then insisted I do a clean up of my computer with a technician. Keeping remote control access on made me quite uncomfortable anyway but now with this technician I was not on the phone with him anymore. Now I could only type messages back and forth through a chat box they provided. It was a very uncomfortable experience especially when they continually tried to sell me a year subscription or whatever it was. They added some pop up blocker and deleted what apparently was a bunch of extra massive junk files. Being that my computer had only just been opened up the day before I don't know how that was possible. I was already annoyed of needing to do this so called "required" clean up and the technician pestered me about four or five times in a row to try and have me pay for the year subscription of service. When I explained that I was uncomfortable about him forcing on me he insisted he wasn't trying to. I am grateful they resolved my issue but I will not be calling them again for anything. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone. Ever.

Webroot contacted but Guruaid came on the line. One hour spent with the worst connection, could barely understand with accent.

Said I had many viruses, computer was very slow and he could fix it for a new 1, 2 or 3 year warranty. What? I asked if he was Webroot and he said no. I said no to warranty.

High pressure began. How about a one time fee of $120? I said no. He said how about 99$ I said we'd think about it.

He wanted to know what was holding me back.and that he'd done his part and spent an hour with me. Asked 6 more times...very pushy and then pissed off.

We disconnected from him. Stay away from GURUAID..

Guruaid Scam as microsoft

Guruaid called me 3 times representing themselves as Microsoft. They told me that I had a problem with my computer that there techs needed to deal with. I allowed them access only because I believe them to be Microsoft. I don't believe they did anything positive to my computer they did not install the antivirus free from Microsoft which they promised. There's no evidence of any Improvement on my computer. And when they were done with me they put on a recorded message saying they were not representatives of Microsoft. They refused to return my money and it looks like my credit card company Bank of America is going to refuse my request to stop payment to them. They are thieves and Liars. Do not trust this company.
